- Local tenant, Maureen, created stunning poppy themed art installation
- Incredible poppy tribute to remembrance and community spirit, will be displayed at St Editha’s Church
- Mayor of Tamworth will join Maureen in the commemorations
A stunning display of remembrance and community spirit will take pride of place at St Editha’s Church this Remembrance Sunday, thanks to a remarkable project led by Maureen, a tenant at Tamworth’s Annandale sheltered housing scheme.
Maureen, 76, has crafted an exquisite poppy themed art installation with the help of her daughter and granddaughter. This beautiful intergenerational project will be proudly displayed at the entrance of St Editha’s Church, where Maureen will also have the honour of accompanying the Mayor of Tamworth as part of the Remembrance Sunday commemorations.
Maureen created her poppy display at the Annandale communal lounge, bringing her vision to life with the support of her family and Tamworth Borough Council’s Scheme Manager. The space quickly transformed into a creative hub, resulting in a breathtaking array of handcrafted poppies, each one symbolising the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who have given so much.
The idea of this project also reflects Maureen’s own time in service, making this tribute even more personal and meaningful.
Mayor of Tamworth, Councillor Chris Bains, who will be attending the Remembrance Sunday service at St Editha’s Church, shared his admiration for the project: “It is an absolute honour to see this beautiful tribute come to life in Tamworth.
“Maureen’s dedication to remembering those who served, alongside her family’s involvement, is truly inspiring.
“This project is a perfect example of how our sheltered housing communal spaces can foster creativity, connection, and a sense of pride in the community. What Maureen has achieved is a testament to the power of art and how a community can come together to celebrate and honour our history.”
This heartfelt project stands as a symbol of remembrance, unity, and the enduring power of family and community. The display at St Editha’s Church will be a poignant addition to this year’s Remembrance Sunday celebrations, reminding all who see it of the importance of remembering and honouring our shared history. The parade will commence from 10.45am this Sunday 9 November, followed by a service at St Editha’s Church.
